Facts about Anxiety
1. Despite its high level of treatability through therapy and/or medication, 2/3 of adults with anxiety do not receive treatment. Teenagers with anxiety receive treatment even less frequently – only 1 in 5 teen sufferers do.
2. Anxiety affects a sufferer physically as well as mentally. Some physical symptoms, especially during a panic attack, include shortness of breath, shaking, nausea, headache, rapid heartbeat, dizzy spells, and more.
3. Those who suffer from anxiety are prone to suffering from depression simultaneously.
4. Anxiety disorders are the most common mental illness in the U.S., affecting 40 million adults in the United States age 18 and older (18% of U.S. population).
5. Anxiety disorders are highly treatable, yet only about one-third of those suffering receive treatment.
6. Anxiety has a tendency to make the outlook of the person more pessimistic, even if they usually have a very positive way of thinking.
